Hi my son goes to a school fifthteen minutes away and my daughter is due to start school in september. for my daughters school we put the school up the road but this means moving my son i spoke to the head teacher and he said if a place does not come up then we will go to appeal in year 3 for my son he is currently in year two but we are out of the catchment area for the school my daughter might be going to. i dont know what to do should i try to get my daughter into my sons school or try to get him into the one she will most probably be going. if they went to the school up the road they would have friends in the secondary school if they go to my sons school they wouldnt have any friends as we are out of the area for that secondary school, i am so unsure what to do as what if my son will hate it at the school up the road. please tell me what you would do?

Kids tend to be very resilient in terms of moving school, far more so than the parents!
So I would not be too worried about your son not liking it, though he undoubtedly will miss some of his current friends for a while.
I would wait and see how you get on with admission for your daughter. Assuming all is well and she gets a place at the local school, then you need to ask whether there is a place at the same school for your son. From your post I guess that it is full and so no place will be offered. If you appeal straight away then you run the risk of it being an infant class size case, when your chances of success are very limited. If you leave it till at least mid June before you apply then you are looking at a sept start date which will then be year3 and not ICS. Still a reasonable chance that you might not get a place but with a sibling also starting school that is a positive to start off with as far as the appeal is concerned.
Personally I would look for the local school as the way forward rather than your son's school.
