collapsing ironing boards - danger!

yesterday, my poor ds got trapped when our heavy ironing board collapsed on top of him knocking him to the floor. Apart from it bashing his head and shoulders, I found that his wrist and arm were trapped and squashed between two long metal metal plates and it took a full minute to get to the lever without hurting him more in order to release him. He was pretty shocked but thank God wasn't more seriously hurt. I'd had my back turned for a few seconds when he'd pressed the lever. There is a red rubber ball you are meant to attach to lever to stop it collapsing but hadn't used it.

I didn't know where to post this but wanted to remind everyone of this unexpected danger.

Thank you, he seems fine today but it really scared the hell out of me. It just happened so fast. Yes, those escalators are a menace - I remember someone telling me a horror story about them and have never enjoyed going on them since.

We're off on holiday shortly so hope to survive my parents' Morphy Richards circa 1960s iron with barely a thread left on it's cord. They refuse to buy a new one and won't accept one as a present either. Think we'll just wear the crumpled look Smile
