Key Stage 2 SATs

DS will soon be taking his Yr 6 SATs. His KS1 maths result was 2a and his teacher assessed result at the end of Yr 5 was 4a. I have recently found out that his predicted result for KS2 maths is 4a. Just wondering if it is the norm that he doesn't seem to have progressed in the last year.

Not ideal, not 'normal', but certainly happens (quite a lot)....

Especially since the 4a in Y5 was teacher assessment and the 4a in SATS will be from an exam....

But going from a 2a in KS1 to a 4a in KS2 is exactly 'expected progress'.

School would have preferred he got a 5c (makes their results look far better), they normally aim for all 2a students to get a level 5, and presumably have done everything they can to bump him up to that.

And for some reason he's not done well this year.

It could be the prediction is based off his KS1 results and he has already exceeded this.

Have to smile to myself, not at you BTW cheekylittledevil, when I think of DD and her 2a in maths in KS1; school are doing everything in their power (apart from hypnosis, hmmm...) to try to bump her up a bit but are so far failing, she is really going to mess up their stats at this rate! With regards to your DS cld not into yr6 yet so can't offer any advice, but IndigoBells post makes sense.
