just wanted to share with you...my DS had alot of problems in his previous school and was very behind - started year 2 unable to read virtually at all and terrible writing. (Was at a private school too). At new school was put on the reading recovery scheme and is having extra help with writing.

Just had his year 3 assesments and is 3c at reading, 2a/3c at maths and 2b(but still having extra help) at writing!

His writing is still his weak point but really progressing and his other two are above average end of year scores!

Sorry if this sounds like boasting but the help from this school has been amazing and my son is so happy.

Pleased to hear your good news. No harm in voasting especially following a period of worry. Glad you found a school who were able to identify his needs and help him accordingly. Smile

boasting

Carrotsandcelery · 17/03/2011 21:38

I am so happy for you - and please boast away - it gives those of us with dcs who are struggling a little light at the end of the tunnel.
Tell him a very big well done from Mumsnet and have a large Brew or even Wine to toast yourself for fighting for him. Grin

MrsBrollyhook · 17/03/2011 21:39

I say boast away when you've seen him make such great progress! Well done to your DS.

livinginthesticks · 17/03/2011 21:39

thanks, I'm so pleased for him. I have been told now that he is on a writing course that is called something like 'moving on up' which should bring him up to standard in 10 weeks. It's just so good because I felt he was going further and further behind and wouldn't be able to catch up.

so pleased with the state system (never choose private but he was offered a failing school initially so private seemed like a better option - what a mistake).

and I can't recommend the reading recovery scheme highly enough for those of you fortunate to have access to it at your schools.

Congratulations to you and ds! Am so pleased to read your post. Sounds like you may have turned his life around Smile

Doesn't sound like boasting, it sounds like you are - understandably - really pleased with both your DS and his school. I'm sure you've played your part too, this is all good news, well done!

pointythings · 17/03/2011 22:03

Congratulations to you and your DS - and hats off to good quality state education. May there be more of it, for everyone!

I'm very jealous. Well done little sticks.
