our head apparently said that her fantasy would be for us to have specialist music school status.

Is she joking? Or can state primaries be specialist? I tried to google it but only got news reports about the potential to introduce such a system from about 2007

I'm putting in quite a lot of time volunteering doing music at school so it would be interesting to know if this is a genuine ambition of hers.

thanks for replying!

If you are in Scotland it may be possible. There are specialist music schools (secondary) in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Plockton. One of the feeder primaries in Edinburgh is a specialist music school (Flora Stevenson). I don't know if there are any others.
