We have just been to our daughters parents evening and think they are marking her reading levels low she is in year 1 and the are saying reading level 1A she was a 1B this time last year.
but she has been bring home reading books on the oxford reading tree at stage 10 (i think aimed at 7-8 years olds)?

Any ideas ?

They look for more than reading the text for the nationl curriculum levels. A lot more! I am sure someone will come a long with a useful link....

nationalstrategies.standards.dcsf.gov.uk/node/20683

is a reasonable start!
Our school grid is an expanded version of this that incorporates APP guidelines and the LA version, if reading book level was the only indicator, my life would be a great deal easier!

ORT 10 is aimed at 6-7 year olds but as others have said there are a number of skills need to be displayed for the teacher to assign NC levels.
