Eyes Blinking/Headaches in Y1 - please help?

My DD1 in Y1 has been complaining every day of a headache for about 2 weeks now.

She comes home and says "today at school I have had a headache". Last night she broke down and said that her TA suggested she had her eyes "tested" because of her complaining of constant headaches/eyes blinking/itching.

I haven't really noticed she has a problem with reading, although she does seem to skip lines/muddle words sometimes - however she is a pretty fluent reader.

I have arranged for an eye test but was wondering if anyone has been through this and what the outcome was. There isn't a history of glasses in our family, nobody in my family wears glasses and my DH does but only started in later life (ie as a young adult) and his eyesight is quite good anyway.

Does you DD1's school use a whiteboard a lot? My Nephew had a similar experience in YR1 and it was caused - they eventually worked out - by the flickering of the whiteboard.

Yes every day. I wonder whether that could be an issue...........thanks for the suggestion!

I am wondering lots of things.

First whether she could be getting a beginning of migraine attacks, as my mum is a sufferer and it seems to have skipped one generation in all the women of my family (ie her grandma had it and her grandma before that).

Second, and this could be a combination of things, it could just be stress - there have been a few issues/problems at school, one of them that the class is pretty unruly and noisy and she has complained of noise levels from the beg of the year, saying they give her a fuzzy head/headache.

Not sure what to do though - I will get her eyes tested (appointment next sat) and then it will be the doctor's next?

My dd started complaining of headaches at the end of the school day when she was around 8 years, may have started earlier but became more frequent at about that age - maybe 1 or 2 times per week, sometimes more. I thought that it might have been due to the fact that she was dehydrated as she wouldn't drink during the day so she wouldn't have to use the school loos! However I decided to get her eyes tested anyway. Hubby wears glasses all the time but I don't .
Optician told me that dd was shortsighted and was probably getting eyestrain looking at the blackboard / smartboard. She got some glasses and the headaches have gone. I felt guilty that I hadn't picked this up sooner. They have so many fashionable kids frames these days, in lots of lovely styles & colours. An eye test is a good place to start.
