Hi - just wondered if anybody knows, if you volunteer to help hear dcs read, do you have to know the ins and outs of phonics teaching?

Think I can help dcs sound out words - but don't know the theory behind it.

Any views much appreciated.

You don't need to know the theory just how to say the sounds clearly and know the letters/combination of letters that represent sounds.

Our school requires a CRB check which takes around 6 weeks to come back so worth doing it sooner rather than later.

Thanks Poppet, I'll have a word with the teacher.

You will need a CRB if you do it on a regular basis and are left alone with a child. I think Gove intends scrapping the need for CRBs (if newspapers are to be believed) check with the school
