Hi can anyone give me some advice about my son. He is currently in year 2 and doing very well at school. I would like him to go to an 11+ school but i don't know how to go about it

Do you mean grammar school? First thing, do you have them in your area? If so, how competitive are they, some take the top 2-5% in which case tuition will be starting soon, others take the top 25% in which case have a look at the papers in yr 5!

You have to choose which schools you'd like your son to go to, and look on their website to see what kind of tests they do. All the grammar schools do diff tests.

But most parts of the country don't have any state grammar school, so you'd need to plan on moving house if you were that keen.....

it was just an idea for me to think about as the high schools around here have got quite bad reputations. there are a few grammer school afew miles away that i will look into.so thanks again

I live in one of the "25% grammar" areas and children travel in from quite a large area ( although as we are also fairly rural this is not uncommon!) We start running lunchtime "puzzle clubs" in the summer term of yr 5 for those interested in sitting the 11+, a couple of the more determined parents also find a tutor for over the summer holidays but other than this, don't advise much. If your child is bright enough they will pass as long as they know what they are doing! However some areas have VERY competitive 11+ schools and tuition seems to be practically from birth!
