Wizards cape and wand, "Harry Potter" or "worst Witch" sorted; too short notice for anything fancy.

Or stripy tights and plaits for "Pippi Longstocking" - easy peasy lemon squeezy.

5inthebed · 02/03/2011 16:12

DS1 is wearing skeleton pyjamas and going as one of the Funny Bones

DS2 wearing policemans outfit and going as PC Plod.

Black leggings, black long sleeve t-shirt, black gloves, cardboard ears taped onto headband, nose & whiskers done in eyeliner = Gobbolino the Witches cat to go with your witch.

DD is wearing a strange grey fake fur jumper that I own with black leggings, grey cardboard ears & whiskers/nose as above and going as the wolf from Red riding hood (plus a cardboard sign around her neck saying 'beware of the wolf' and a cardboard axe, just for those who are being obtuse Grin)

Alice in Wonderland also good if you have a girl with long hair who owns a slightly old fashioned looking dress (ditto Laura from little house in the big woods if brown hair, or Mary if blond hair)

Takver · 02/03/2011 17:21

Ah, just realised Ds - what about Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Cat in the Hat if you have two to dress - stripey tops and cardboard signs.

ClenchedBottom · 02/03/2011 17:24

Hmm, depends how hard you want to have to try. Could just send in 'normal' clothes and be Jack from J and the Beanstalk? - Maybe carrying a tub labelled 'beans' for added effect???
I get a bit grumpy about these dressing up things - if the DC are into it and put the effort into thinking up and sorting a costume, then fine, but otherwise I very much go for the easy options.......

DS is going as Harry from Harry and a bucket of dinosaurs. Simple he can wear his own clothes with a bucket of some dinosaurs.

torie1980 · 02/03/2011 18:36

My DS is going as horrid henry so can wear his normal clothes

Stick your child in y fronts and an apron tied as a cape and say he/she is Captain Udnerpants. It needs chutzpah to carry it off but my son did it one year and was the star of the show.

wearymum200 · 02/03/2011 23:14

Ds1 going as Jamie from dinosaur cove. Needs a bacpack, jeans, trainers and have printed a pic of a pda saying "fossil finder". Easy. If your dc know/ like dino cove.

Well I have unintentionally sent my kid to school in a 'character building' costume. It is not going to survive his coat and fall apart by end of day. Feel guilty as he is a squeaky 5 year old who will make a fuss if costume disintegrates. Poor him, and poor teachers. Bad mum for not just buying a costume!! I thought I had done so well til put his coat on. Pride comes before a fall.. poor ds will look so UNCOOL..

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 03/03/2011 09:58

Ds badly wanted to go as Gobbolino, have discovered we have literally no black clothing in the house.

So we have settled for Charlie (of Chocolate Factory fame). Though it does hang on me having to go out and find some gold card to make him a golden ticket (as am basically sending him in jeans and t-shirt), have seached all the craft boxes to no sodding avail.

So am off out (full of crappy cold) to buy card and enormous bar of chocolate to share at school.
