Probably a silly question!

I'm starting the daunting task of searching for a good primary school that my DD1 will hopefully get a place at next year.
The nearest decent one which is very oversubscribed is 1.176 miles (crow flies) (notice I've been doing my homework!)
The others which I am looking at are not in our local authority and a couple more miles further out in rural areas and much less subscribed. My question is - is it possible to apply for schools outside your local authority and how do you go about this?

Thanks! Confused

Yes you can apply. Go to the website for the neighbouring local authority and follow the instructions for primary school applications. It will also show the criteria for admission but if they are not over subscribed you will get a place.

*runoutofideas8 is right, no problem in applying in other LAs a lot of small village primaries are very good.

Its always a good idea to visit as many as you can before you decide to find the most suitable one for you child

Good luck

I did this last year as insurance - I would check with both local authorities what the procedure is as sometimes you simply but the out of area school down on your local authority form -but it depends.
I would say have you visited the nearer schools that you don't think are decent -I know this not what you ask - as you might be pleasently suprised - friend of mine nearest school was close to quite bad esate = not good ofstead but she went round -much better than she thought- didn't put it first choice for other reasons- -but was not stressed when she did get it - and actually it worked out really really well - daughter thriving and only 5 min walk to school
