Hi - I am considering sending by 6yo son to Longacre school, Guildford. Seems really lovely, v. impressive new head but there seems to be a really low ratio of boys/girls. The school says they try to achieve a 50:50 balance but I wondered if any of you out there have any direct experience of this school, and whether the apparent lack of boys impacts on sports etc.
All comments gratefully recieved to help my deliberations!

The thing about Longacre is that it only goes to 11, whereas most other boys preps go to 13. Where are you going to send him next? Are you hoping for RGS, Reigate Grammar or state school?

Its supposed to be a lovely school, but in Surrey even girls are tending to stay at prep until 13.

I would have thought there would be a lack of boys 7+ rather than at 6, as many go onto Cranleigh prep or the Aldro at 7.

Hi I've got an 8yr old son at the school. It is a lovely school. I've had another son and a daughter go the whole way through to yr6. It depends what you want for your child, Longacre finds your child's strength in whatever field and develops it. Because it is not a selective school people think it is inferior academically but I disagree they get children into all the top schools including RGS and St Catherines some with scholarships. Longacre children are happy children, my older 2 still miss it. In some years there are less boys but the upside of that is that they always get selected for teams and matches!
