Hi, we are moving to the UK from Ireland and are applying for a place for year1 in April. We hope to be renting when we move over but dont have an address yet for the application form, Has anyone else gone through this and have any advice?

You need to contact the admission office of the Local Authority where you expect to be living. Different Local Authorities have slightly different views about when you can apply for a place at schools, so you need to be sure.
You should also be aware that many schools will be full and there is a limit on numbers in infant classes to 30. Whilst you can appeal against not being offered a place at any school if it is subject to the infant class size regulations you have little if any chance of winning an appeal because of this legal restriction.
It is the admission office of the LA that will offer the school place so you need to talk to them about which schools have a place available.

I have been in correspondence with some one else about this who told me they were possibly moving into my area.

If you want more advice than the very sound advice given by admission above you do need to sat where you are moving to.

Also by year 1 you do mean the year above reception?

That is the children who were admitted to primary school in autumn 2009?
