Music scholarship for year 3

We may have an opportunity to apply for a music scholarship for year 3 for our ds.
The assessment is taken in year 2 just after Xmas.We were wondering what level or ability might be required at that point.
He is learning the piano.Any thoughts?

Usually for music scholarship for yr 7 schools are looking for at least grade 5. Lower down I guess it is probably about 3 but they are probably looking less at achievements and more in terms of potential. Why not ask the school?
