Poem or mnemonic for learning months of year in order

Well, the title says it all! I know of the rhyme which tells you how many days for each month but my DS needs to learn the order of the months so that he can answer such questions as name the month that comes two months after August.

anyone who can offer a fun poem, I will be v grateful! he loves poems but finds basic recite-learning pretty boring!

How old is DS?
My Ds (4) likes the Flanders and Swann song:
(Poem #649) A Song of the Weather

January brings the snow
Makes your feet and fingers glow
February's Ice and sleet
Freeze the toes right off your feet
Welcome March with wintry wind
Would thou wer't not so unkind
April brings the sweet spring showers
On and on for hours and hours
Farmers fear unkindly May
Frost by night and hail by day
June just rains and never stops
Thirty days and spoils the crops
In July the sun is hot
Is it shining? No, it's not
August cold, and dank, and wet
Brings more rain than any yet
Bleak September's mist and mud
Is enough to chill the blood
Then October adds a gale
Wind and slush and rain and hail
Dark November brings the fog
Should not do it to a dog
Freezing wet December then:
Bloody January again!
(January brings the snow
Makes your feet and fingers glow).

we sing the months of the year to the tune of 10 little

January february march and april
may , june july and august
september october november december
these are the months of the year

I know you need to know the order to sing it but my class learnt it so quickly this way.

montymum · 09/02/2011 21:49

Sorry did say 10 little indians!

squashpie · 10/02/2011 21:57

Thank you for all of those. They are GREAT!

Had completely forgotten the Flanders and Swann one. Have got that somewhere. The necessary swear word will definitely appeal! Hadn't realized (though should've) that there was an original upon which it was based.
Thank you again. Think willput all before DS and see which captures him. Grin

My kids sang at school

January, February, March & April
Are the first 4 months of the year
May, June July & August
Show that summertime is here
September & October
When the leaves are falling fast
Then November followed by December show
That another year has past

jolly little song - can't find a link to the tune though Sad

has passed, sorry Blush
