Is she being bullied - do I get involved

My dd is being picked on in the dinner line on set days but older girls, who take the micky out of her clothes, hair, jsut mean to her and only her. Not overly but enough to make her uncomfortable and embarressed. Do I get involved and see a teacher? Or shoudl she in Year 5 ignore it and deal with it her self? I don't want her to think I can sort out all her troubles but I hate doing nothing as I always want to save her!

I would call this bullying, even though it might be fairly minor - you should have a word with the class teacher, be straightforward, direct, clear, ask her to have a word with the girls as they are picking in your daughter.

Also keep a note of when it happens, so if it continues you can back it up with a log.

They should have an anti bullying policy and be following it.

Asking the teacher to stand nearby when it's lunchtime so she can pick it up straight away and tell the girls off, will make it seem like dd hasn't 'told on them' and it might work better.

btw you're not making your duaghter unable to stand up for herself if you say something to the teacher.

You're showing her that someone cares and will help her with behaviour that presumably she's already tried and not been able to stop.

OR you could teach her with some role play, about how to be assertive - that might help anyway - have a look at bullying websites for tips and advice.

Thanks for your advice. I have just called the school who are horrified and are going to watch the girls in question. I am such a wimp with complaining and girls can be so bitchy but I'm glad I called. Thank you I was worried I was being an over anxious mother.
