Waiting for a statement - home education

Does anyone know what happens if you decide to home educate while waiting for a finalised statement?

My son has been flexi-schooled for the past two months as provision in school has been poor (he as Asperger's) and school don't seem to think they have a duty to do much to help, despite numerous reports and suggestions, because he is doing ok academically. The LA have proposed a statement.

He can get terribly anxious and it can be a daily battle. School are overly focused on the academics and I don't want him there long-term.

We are considering moving out of the area altogether but I wondered what would happen if we got a finalised statement but said we wanted to HE pending findiang a more sympathetic (and smaller) mainstream school.

There shouldn't be a problem with that. You are entitled to HE your child whether or not he has a statement. However, if you want to find a mainstream school for him you should start looking. Apologies if I am teaching you to suck eggs here but if your son gets a statement you will be able to name the school you want him to go to and the school and the LA have to comply with your wishes in most cases.

Homeboys - no, I don't want to HE permanently. I want to do it to free him of his present school and as a temporary measure until we find something more suitable. This could mean moving counties.

Sorry, I'm probably explaining this badly.

He is getting a statement. It will be finalised at the end of the month but there will be issues to appeal about and negotiate on after that.

I just wondered what the position is if, after finalising a statement you HE on a temporary basis until a new school is found.
