Please I am in a really serious dilemma, I need to fill out school preferences for my 3-year old daughter who will be getting into school in September.
The problem is, I have a 6-year old who is currently in year 1 in a good catholic school here in Nottingham (St Teresa's RC), and the school feeds into a secondary school that has excellent Ofsted reports. This catholic school is about 15 mins away from home by car. My daughter has however been on the waiting list (currently number 3 on the list) of a state primary school that is about 3 minutes away from my house (Fernwood infant sch) and I've been hoping for her to get into Fernwood because the infant/primary school have outstanding Ofsted reports and its conveniently close.

My problem now is, I have to submit an application for her younger sister who's 3 to get into school in September. I'm extrememly tempted to place Fernwood as the 1st choice for my daughter's application because we live within the schools's catchment area and I'm almost certain she'd get taken... then the catholic school where my 6 year old currently is, as 2nd choice. However, I'm not sure if its a very wise move because there's a possibility that my 6 year old may never get a place in Fernwood school even when her sister is there. On the other hand, if my 3 year old gets taken at fernwood and my 6 year old eventually gets a place there, will it be unfair of me to change her school from a school she's already settled in?

I don't know if my obsession with Ofsted reports is wise Wink but I'd really appreciate advise from other mums and especially mums of kids in these schools in Nottingham.

I would say put Fernwood as your dd2s first choice as this will move dd1 to the top of the waiting list. dd1 is likely to get a place at the start of Y3 where class sizes can be more than 30 children. I would say being 3 mins away is a definite advantage - especially since petrol is really increasing at the moment ! i have no knowledge of schools in Notts though.
