I have a couple of friends whose children started reception this academic year.

child 1 started in september doing just mornings until Jan when he went full time

child 2 started in september and did a weeks worth of mornings then went full time

child 3 started in september and did afternoons until half term and then went full time

So how long until your child went full time?

my DS went part time (a min of mornings and afternoons) until half term then he went full time. It drove me and him crazy because despite only being 4 and 3 weeks he was more than ready for school full time, having been at nursery 3 days a week prior to starting school.

The current system is unworkable for alot of parents who work and have summer babies, and those who have children who need more stimulation than others. Im SOO pleased that DS2 will be able to start full time when hes ready, as they will have brought the new rules in by then.

DD started reception in September. She did a week of 9-12, a week of 9-1 and then started full time

At our school they start fulltime on day one. The school says that they have found that the children settle in quicker that way.

Ours did 3 afternoons the first week, then full time after that.

My DD starts next Sept. All the schools told us they do a month of 1/2 days. (She is currently in nursery 8-5 every day)

My other children all went FT from Day One, having only been used to morning playgroup Hmm.
