I am not planning to complain jamaisjedors but if he is not completing work or co operating surely it is better to nip it in the bud?

Only if he (without prompting from you) has said he's upset about it.

Surely the teacher would have mentioned it if there were a problem.

Perhaps it was work done by one particular group of pupils?

Oh - x posted. Well, if that's your concern you could check at the next parents' evening.

It was a "show" to let the parents see what they had done and to consolidate their learning. I know it is not devastating to the rest of the world but I am really worried he hasn't actually written anything!

I think the time to ask was at the display. Look at the other kids' stuff, then say to the teacher "This is all lovely! I'd love to see something ds has done, can you show me where his contribution is please?"

Raising it more formally would be a bit OTT though.

The next Parents' Evening isn't until March. A lot could (not) happen by then!

If it was a display to show the classes work, and none of his was there to see, I would ask the teacher why.

You may well find that it was a TA or a parent helper who put up the displays and randomly chose from whatever they had to hand.

The classroom was packed with other parents and it didn't seem the moment. It was a fantastic display and I don't want her to feel I am criticising as I am not. She is a great teacher. I am just worried now that he is mucking about and not working.

OhYou you may be right as there was only a selection in each section. Maybe his work was so bad they didn't want to embarrass him by displaying it! Aaaarrrrgggghhh! I have to ask or I will worry for weeks!

I'd be a bit disappointed if none of dd's work was on display, but if I were you, I wouldn't ask - think you might get labelled a PITA parent.

Were all parents asked to come and view the display? If so then I would expect everyone in the class to have at least one piece of work up. Surely every child has something to contribute no matter whether it is good or bad?
I would ask ..something along the lines of " I thought the display was great...but was abit disappointed that none of X's work was up. Is there any reason?"

I agree with pinktortoise. I would have thought most children would be upset if there was a special display that parents were invited to and they had nothing to point out to their parents.

I work in an infant school. Just ask the teachr or TA in the mornig. They won';t be offended.

I would have been disappointed too. Seems a reasonable reaction to me.

If you are invited in for a display of a class's work, your DC is in the class then it is a perfectly reasonable assumption that something your child has done will be displayed.

I too would be concerned that my DS wasn't finishing work.

I spoke to the teacher. He has been finishing work but the displays were random. He did actually have a story on the wall outside the classroom but I hadn't looked there. I chatted with her for a couple of minutes once the class had been collected and it was really helpful. It seems they prefer you to ask as it helps them to help your child too. Happy now :)

It is always a good idea to have a word if you are worried or concerned.
