Oxford Reading Tree - What stage?

What stage would you expect your dc to have reached by now in their second year of primary school?
I know they all develop at their own rates and so on - I am just trying to gauge if my ds is on track, needs pushed a little etc.

the importannt thing is to enjoy books together
do you go to the library and get books out to read with him? Let him choose his own.

Dd is in yr2 and on stage3, but she is abit behind. Totally agree with bigchris we spend lots of time reading fun exciting books that she chooses so although she finds reading difficult she still loves books.

We go to the library once a week and he reads to us every day. We read to him every day, at bedtime at least.
My dd is bright and was much further up the stages by this point.
I don't want to overdo it if he is doing fine but I also would rather help him along a little more if he was lagging a little.
I think my main problem is that he is very "silly" and I am concerned that it is slowing him up - that he could do the work but is so silly he is not progressing.
What stage do people expect at this age? He was 6 in November.

That does suggest he is "behind" then. Is this what everyone is finding or is it just us?

Does reception = p1 in Scotland???

Duuuhhhh sorry the age is by the side!!!

DD1 is P2 in Scotland (yr 2 england) and is on stage 9 in class although not finding them challenging.

DD2 is P1 in Scotland (reception england) and is on stage 2 and doesnt find it all that easy!

They all just get it at their own pace, so I dont push!

From what I've worked out my DD seems to be doing ok with her reading. She's reading stage 10 but I think the range of ok can be quite wide i.e 6,7,8,9,10 for her year 2 class etc. from what I've read (was worried she would be way off when returning from abroad) Of course there are a few that are fluent readers and have been since they were 2! :) You can read various posts that have kids in year 1 classes that have averages as high as year 2. I'm not sure this helps hugely.

My ds is in P2 (Scotland) and is nearing the end of Stage 4. He rattles through them but his teacher insists this is the right level for him.
P1 in Scotland is usually age 5. My son started age 4 as his birthday is in November. The cut off is the end of Dec to the End of Feb. Children in that gap can either start or wait until this next intake.

Dan, your dc sound very like mine - one shooting ahead and one "going at their own pace" :)

In my dd's year 1 class the range is from Red to Purple, so about 1 - 8. The "average" would be about blue/green level - 4/5 ish. This is just what I have seen going in to help hear them read.

as the mother of older, very bright kids (as well as younger ones) please do not get bothered about this - wait until your child is 8 or 9 and then think about where they are - before that is just useless and pointless to consider how they're doing in comparison to others or charts.

soem kids gain reading fluency and comprehension skills later and it has no bearing on their level of intelligence or ability
