Distance from school to home.

I wondered if I can get some help please. My DDs are due to start primary school Jan 2010. I have seen a few schools that I am interested in, but the distance from school to home is slightly concerning me. Is there a way to find out if its worth to apply for a certain school that is a bit further than another school? if that makes sense :o~

The LA should be able to tell you the distance for the last child admitted to each school last year but that doesn't mean it will be the same this year. If there are enough spaces on the form to put all the schools you are interested in you should do so, regardless of how strong your chances are of getting in.

What school do other children in your road go to? That is usually a good indicator on your chances of getting into a certain school.

Do you mean you are thinking of applying for a school that isn't one of your nearest ones?

Do you mean January 2011 or 2012?

im am apply for jan jan 2012.....the schools i like the most are the further away...i just hope if i apply i wouldnt be wasting a spot..

im fairly new to the area so have not really talked much to the neighbours as yet

What Cat64 has described in terms of how choices are handled is the equal preference system. ALL authorities have to use this - they don't have any choice in the matter. So you are not damaging your chances of getting into the local school by putting other schools above it in your preference list. You aren't wasting a spot by putting a school that is a long way away on your list. You might strike it lucky and get in. Even if you don't you haven't affected your chances of getting in to your local school.
