WWYD - time to talk to the teacher?

DD (reception) seems to be being picked on by a boy in her class

In the past few weeks we have now had eight different incidents of this boy being "mean" to DD (as she calls it), from stealing her snack, pushing her over at playtime, breaking her model in class, etc.

Most of these have been witnessed by a teacher/TA (but a different one every time) & the boy told off, but I'm not sure (as it has been different people) if they have put the whole picture together?

DD also says he is "mean" to others in her class too & "is always being told off"

So...

WWYD - should I go & speak to the teacher or not?

Part of me says if he "is always being told off" as DD says, then they are already aware of the issue & will deal with it?
The other part of me says that it's not fair DD is continually picked on by this boy & it needs to stop.

It might be time to have a word with the teacher but more along the lines of, "DD has mentioned that a particular child is being mean to her... I've said I'll mention it to you so you know she's worried, hope that was the right thing to do".

That way the teacher can reassure you if the 'being pushed' and model breaking were deliberate, malicious acts or clumsy accidents or can confirm that she's aware of this and that she has already asked the other adults to keep an eye out.

If he is 'always being told off' it may well be being dealt with but simply sharing your concerns with the teacher sounds sensible.

God, yes! My ds's Reception said to pass any of this on, the Reception teacher in my own school would definitely want to know if this happened at ours, and so would I if this was my class, Reception or not.

Yes do! Better than risking that they don't know the whole picture afterall and leaving it unsorted.

I know the teacher is definitely aware of at least some of it, as she spoke to me after the snack-stealing incident (which was the first one I knew about) & reassured me that she had already spoken to the boy's parents & that "this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated"
I thought at the time that calling it "stealing" was a tiny bit harsh as they are only 4 after all, but maybe there was already more to it (that she obviously couldn't share with me) even then?

Still a quick chat will put my mind at rest...

If I was you, I would mention it and ask that they do something.

Just to update you...

I spoke to DD's teacher after school. She was aware of some of the incidents, but not all of them & she said she was very glad I'd gone in to speak to her about it, so she can ask everyone to keep an eye out.

Apparently they are already keeping a close eye on the boy in question, due to the number of incidents involving him.

So hopefully things should improve now, watch this space I guess...
