The Magic Key ORT

I recently posted under another name about these books and asked why Roderick Hunt was given an MBE and not the illustrator Alex Brychta? They have collaborated for 25 years on the ORT Biff, Chip and Kipper series and wanted to know why only one half of the team was recognised in this way when they both received an Outstanding Achievement Award last year for services to Education. My son started reading these books last year and now they have become fun adventures whose illustrations not only complement the stories but also work as stand alone images. They are full of hilarious visual gags and immensely clever detail which encourages a child to read the story and creates a positive experience for everyone involved. I have no connection to Alex Brychta, but as an illustrator am deeply impressed with his continued ingenuity and accomplished drawings. It turns out that the only reason he hasn?t been honoured is because no-one nominated him! Yet. Any other admirers please post here.

I think he's great too.

DS loves the books, he looked at the pictures before he could read for ages and seemd to get the stories. The pictures are great, the story itself is not a literary masterpiece - naturally!

Gran is a laugh and is always being told off. I must admit that the illustrations do make an otherwise ho-hum story good!

Have you noticed (I'm sure you have) how the illustrator often puts himself in the pictures? We have a laugh just trying to spot him.
