class sizes/number of TA in your childs class

How many children are in you childs class,what yeAr are they and how many teaching assistants ?
DS2-reception-30 chilren-1 full time TA and one shared with other reception class.Just curious to see what is average.

The legal requirement in reception is 1 -30 so 1 teacher to 30 children no TA required.

Year one, class of 30,one full time Ta. Y3,class of 25, one full time TA.

Last year, in Reception, two classes of around 30, two teachers and 3, sometimes 4 TAs.

DS1: mixed Year 3&4 class, 25 children with one teacher and one 1:1 assistant for a child with SEN.

DS2: mixed Year 1&2 class, 23 children with one teacher, one TA and one 1:1 for a child with SEN.

DD: Reception, 16 children with one teacher and one TA.

I suspect with funding cuts many state schools will have fewer TAs

DD1 (Reception): mixed Reception and Nursery (from age 3) class. 8 Reception children full-time, 7 Nursery children part-time. 1 teacher, 1 full-time TA and one part-time TA.

I probably should say that we are in Wales where the staff:child ratio for Reception is 1:8 and for Years 1 and 2 is (I think) 1:15.

Ds2 yr3 : Class of 29, one teacher, one part-time and one full-time TA.

domestic-Wow,thats a nice ratio but yes i think Wales is a bit far for the school run.
mrz-thats intresting,so his class is well staffed.
Am having various problems with ds2(another thread to start when i have the energy)and wondered if his teacher was stretched with such a big class and a large amount of pupils with english as a secound language.Having read what mrz says ,i see that we are probably lucky.

Dd year 3 30 children, 1 teacher, 1 ft class TA, 1 ft SEN TA and dd's SEN TA for 20 hours per week.

DS: Year2. Class of 28. 1 TA (and a student teacher as well as normal teacher at the moment)

DD: Reception: Class of 27. 1 TA and 1 nursery nurse. A child in her class also gets a 1:1 TA for half of the week (so not a class TA but she does do things with the wider class)

DS, Y2 has 20 in class with 1 teacher, 1 student teacher and a TA.

DD, Y1 has 17 in class with 1 teacher and a TA.

I used to live in SW Wales and one of my friends told me her DS would be in a nursery class of 40+ kids (and counting) with 1 TA. The nursery was a 5min walk from where we lived, and we'd either have to put our kids there or move to my home town in Northern Ireland where the class sizes were way smaller. We move to N.I.

How long ago was that Chilled?

In my nursery class we have to have a ratio of 1:8.

Y R class of 28 - 1 teacher and 1 part-time TA

Y3 - 35 children - 1 teacher and 1 TA who actually only spends 6 hours in the class (the rest of her time is spent on 'catch up' groups outsid wit this and other classes).

Are the ratios in Wales really fixed at that level?! Amazing.

Amazing, yes. However they haven't supplied that much more money with which to pay staff!

lordbingham the Welsh ratios aren't statutory and not all schools have managed to achieve the 1-8 but even so they are much better than in England

Blimey, I think I will pack my bag and head for the Welsh hills! DS1 has Asperger's and large class sizes, with no additional help is not good news.

Dd1- year 6 30,f/t TA
Dd2- year 4 19 f/t TA

Not including SEN TAs

dd1 Y2 26 in class, f/t TA. Ditto when she was in Y1 (30) and Reception (23). Its only in KS2 where the class sizes drop, and there is more sitting-down learning, that the TAs are shared or p/t - but they still seem to be there an awful lot from what I've seen!

I swear the school would lose half its heart without the TAs. They are utterly loved.

Actually, come to think of it, in Reception there were p/t TAs in addition to the f/t one.

DD1 Reception at Special School. 10 children, 1 teacher 3 TAs.

DD Reception, class of 18, 1 Teacher, 1 TA

DS Reception, class of 24, 1 Teacher, 1 TA

Dd2's reception class- 19 children. 1 teacher and 1 full time TA.

Dd1's yr 2/3 class- 25 children. 1 teacher and 1 full time TA plus couple of morning helpers throughout week.
