when did you start ? (when is the 11+ took?)

My DD is only in yr 5, but wondered do people start in year 5?

Not even sure I should have her tutored?

Is it a weekly thing? every 2 weeks?

Thanks!

DS1 had a tutor once a week for the year prior to taking entrance exams (not the 11+ specifically though).

so yes, he was Y5.

Tutoring is worthwhile as it familiarises them with the papers. if your child is bright enough and you are calm enough, you can do this y ourself with practice papers and books.

I worked through English comprehension papers and essay writing with DS1 and it was the most stressful thing i did... I am not a teacher! The tutor did the verbal reasoning and maths.

Nine months prior to the actual test is the optimum time to start tutoring for one hour per week.

Our county 11+ is taken in the September at the beginning of year 6 so those wishing to tutor generally start in the January of Year 5, my school runs a "Puzzle Club" at lunchtimes from Easter onwards for those children who want to sit the 11+ but who can't afford a tutor which familiarises them with the papers and helps understand timings. Of the 5 who passed this year two had a tutor and 3 didn't!
