First post. At the last parents evening teacher said that dd needs to work on her creative writing. She is year 4. But I dont know where to start. There are lots of resources around for maths etc but not much on creative writing. Can anybody help? Is there something around story planning etc.. - websites/books?

I would encourage her to keep a diary...writing as she speaks will help her.

That's the problem though. Teacher says that she writes as she thinks - so there is no logical order sometimes - just a lot of very very long sentences - her grammar has gone out of the window as well

Look out for books written by Pie Corbett - I have the How to Teach Fiction Writing KS2, but he has written many others.

I use pictures as a starting point. Choose a picture... ask her what she thinks is happening, what will happen next, get her to give little details about it. Write it together and explain that sentences can't be too long.
Good luck!

This might help a little, it's aimed at teachers but could be a good starting point?
