Would a school be interested in a volunteer who wasnt a parent of a child at the school do you think?

I am looking to volunteer in a primary school for a few hours a week but am not able to volunteer in my sons school (he has just started reception). Would it be ok to ask around at other schools or would that seem strange? they may not want someone volunteering who didnt have children in the school I thought??

I am doing a distance learning TA diploma and really wanted some RL experience behind me as well for future job prospects!

What do you think?

I think any school would be happy to have you.

My local school has just agreed to let someone just like you volunteer for them two days a week - she has absolutely no connection to the school other than that it's handy for her to get to.

The head was almost jumping for joy!

Yes! Ours often has people in like this.

Fabulous, thank you! I think I will draft up a letter then and drop it in to a couple of schools asking if I can go in and see them Smile

There'll be no problem - my DD is doing an degree related to children and volunteers in nurseries and schools; she needs it for the observations she has to do. The schools are just grateful.

You'll need to be CRB checked - although this is being replaced by something else now (I've forgotten what it's called) - the school will sort that.

We have numerous volunteers that have no family connection, from students to retired members of the community.
