HOMEWORK QUESTION

Hi my dd is bringing home homework which as been photocopied from the old Heinemann mathematics 6 textbook. This book is based on what a child will learn in year 6. My question is it seems very easy,do you think it is because it is the old books and not the new version. Thank you in advance.

I don't think maths textbooks ar egetting more complicated than they used to be, so I don't think the fact it came from an old book would make it easier. It's probably easy because your child knows how to do it - as Pixie says that might be because its extra practice on something they've already covered in class, or as a reminder of something before they move onto the next step from there. Or just that your DC finds this topic an easy one, but the teacher needs others in the group to practice it a little more.

Thank you pixieOnaLeaf and AMumInScotland.
My dd is in year 5 and the teacher said he wanted to push her by giving her year 6 work. She is the only one in the class who gets this work. But my dd and i feel it is not any harder than the work she does in class. I thought maybe that the textbook she is working from is not up to todays levels.

If she picks up maths concepts quite easily, its not unlikely that she'll find stuff from one or two years ahead quite straightforward. The problem for the teacher is always how to provide something interesting and challenging when that means she'll get further ahead of the others all the time.
