Exams in primary school

Hello,

I am new to all this school business as dd is not there yet. We are choosing schools at the moment. What exams do primary school children take these days?

Just deciding between two at the moment.
one seems a bit more 'serious' than the other which may be good for grades etc but want my daughter to be a child for as long as possible and not have too much pressure put on her at such a young age if you see what i mean.

Thanks

State primaries do SATS. Teacher assessed in Year 2 and exam papers in Year 6.

elphaba is right. The teacher assessed ones in year 2 are supposed to be fairly transparent to the children - just a bit of change to their usual routines, not really special preparation.

Could you track down some year 3 parents at the schools and ask them how the year 2 SATS affected their children?

State schools do SATS at Y2 and Y6.
Some state schools have their own end of year tests too.

Private schools are a different ball game - some do SATS, some don't. Many have end of year tests, some don;t. Most do some form of Y6 entrance exams for high schools or, depending on region, grammar schools.

FWIW my DD has no SATS but has had end of term assessments since Y2 (now Y4) and she still loves school, has a carefree time and doesn';t appear to even realise tests are going on most of the time.
