Reluctant Writer in Y2

Yes, you've guessed it, he's a boy!

How can I encourage him to write? He's very verbal and intelligent, but he'd far rather talk and then go off and do something else rather than write - looking at his literacy work is painful!

I'm concerned as DD has just gone into Y3 and I've seen the step change in the amount of work they are expected to produce with minimum supervision - as it stands DS is going to get one hell of a shock!

Any ideas? Should I just not worry or do you think I should go and see the teacher - the first parent's evening isn't until March which would not leave much time for changing things after our discussion.

Hi, we're on the same boat. I came to post about it. I need advice too. All the best!

I didn't guess he was a boy...my DD is in year 2 and hates writing too...she is also very articulate and riting slows her thought process down.

Have the school showed concern? I would speak to the teacher and ask how he is getting on...she won't say anything unless she has real concerns.

Seems odd that you won't have a parents' evening until 6 months into the academic year.

I would speak the teacher. Ds is a very reluctant writer. Tonight I am in the middle of trying to get him to do his writing homework. He refused to do last week's and got detention. He has lovely handwriting when he can be bothered. Unfortunately he is rarely bothered by anything and it is reflected in his school work this year. We have conversations about effort and set targets and treats but nothing works.

I'm waiting until next month's parents' evening before I say anything. Hoping he may improve in the next month. Hmm
