What age will ds start school??

Sorry a very basic question but am confused! Ds was born in november 2007 & i was thinking he could start school in January 2012 but have realised it may be Sept 2012 - or does it depend on school/area???

Depends on the county you live in
some places do two intakes in the year - in jan and sept
where I live they only do a September intake

If you have a look on the county council website for where you live, they should have a section explaining school admittance procedures. There is also some variance from school to school, so it may be worth looking at the websites of the school/s you are considering. Our area (Lincs)has a one intake (Sept) policy.

I think it would be Sept 2012. Even if there is a January intake I would think that that would be for the younger ones in the school year ahead. My dd, for example was born Aug 2007, so is 3 months older than yours. She will start Sept 2011, but if there was a Jan 2012 intake, which there isn't in my area, I could wait and start her then.

He'll start in September 2012. Children start school in the school year that they turn 5.

Contrary to some of the answers on this thread, it does NOT depend on where you live provided you are in England. That used to be the case but the rules have now changed.

Your son will start in September 2012, i.e. the September following his 4th birthday. You have the option of delaying until later in the school year but he must be in school by the start of the term following his 5th birthday, i.e. January 2013.

In our part of Wales (Ceredigion), children start the next full term after their 4th birthday so there are intakes in January (for children born Sept-Dec), after Easter (born January-March/April) and September (May-August). August-born DD has just started this September at 4.1 years old.
