DS1 had a 2a in his maths SATS last year and has moved to Year 3. His english was poor and I spent a lot of time over the summer hols with him trying to improve this and his confidence.
I have found out he is now in the extra help group for maths. I asked his teacher why when he had a 2A? She responded it was because of his persona which I didn't understand. She said it was her decision and he would have to stay there until Christmas.
I asked about his literacy, with which there is a problem and was told so by his previous teacher. She said there wasn't a problem. I said he couldnt spell and had general difficulties with the subject. She said he was just at the younger end of the year.
Am I right to be a bit concerned about this as OFSTED recently gave the school a poor report highlighting inconsistencies in teaching as an issue in the school.
She also said she had more support in the class this year (there are 35 in class) from assistants. The school are using the lunchtime staff.
I hadn't got an issue with this in principle, but my younger DS brought home a reading record with a comment written in it with my DS's name spelt incorrectly and spelling mistakes clearly visible which someone at the school had tried to scribble out in red pen.
Should I be concerned?
