DS is coming up four, we are due to put his name down to start the school that DD 6 currently attends. We have had our house on the market for 6 months (currently in SW) I have started work in London and we are hoping to move east.
We have been told places at DD's school are very tight and as we don't live in the village, we may not get a place for DS. As we are moving I was not too worried, but as the house is failing to sell, should we put him on the list anyway?
I don't want to take a place away from someone who will definitely attend the school, but at the same time, I don't want to be left without a place should the house not sell. opinions please...

I think you should definitely apply for the school just in case you have not moved. House buying / selling is so unpredictable that it would be much better for you to have a school place that you then turn down than to fail to sell the house and be left having to send your DS to a different school.
I wouldn't worry about taking a place from someone else as they could still get your place via the waiting list if you subsequently change your mind. You have to apply to a school somewhere!
Good luck with selling your house!

I think you should apply. You're not taking away a place because if you haven't moved you'll need it yourself.

If you do move you just tell them LA and the place will go to someone on the waiting list.

You should definitely apply. If you don't move you will need the place. If you do move the LA will simply give the place to the next person on the list.
