Awful spelling and grammar on school website...

... I'm concerned. The children's area where they can post in response to questions is shocking! Uploaded pictures of Lady Gaga and terrible spelling, grammar, punctuation etc.

Am I mad to think that age 9+ children should know how to spell?

Otherwise happy with the ethos of school and son settling in well.

Is it worth mentioning it to teachers or will they probably take offence?

I'm sure that they already know.

What sort of words are you worried about?

Of course most 9 year olds don't know how to spell perfectly!

My 9 y/o dd is doing very well at school but gets some words hilariously wrong (usually due to never having written them before) but her teachers and I don't correct her every single time. She will learn.

(the following are all year 6)

thincks and thimks instead of thinks (possible typo for the second one)

bee instead of be

amazzing instead of amazing

wood instead of would (year 5)

On a typed website all of those mistakes could very easily be typo's apart from the wood/would one. I think you're over reacting just based on what you've written here.

Spelling seems to be very low on the list of importance

You will see poor spelling like this on many school and educational blogs - IMO tragic!

I wouldn't be too worried by mistakes that children have made.
I would be more worried by spelling and grammatical errors of any posts put on by teachers, or on letters coming home from school with errors on. Or the worst one, IMO, was seeing a spelling mistake on the whiteboard when I dropped my child off, which was clearly written by the teacher or teaching assistant!
But what can you do when you find these mistakes?
