All this homework - Reception!!!!

And it's all for me.

Forms, things to put in their book bag each night, cakes to bake, cheques to write etc etc etc. I never quite anticipated so much would be required from me!!!! It is wonderful that they involve us so much and I adore her new school, I just live in fear that I will forget something one day.

The pressure is on......but not on her

I know how you feel. DD started on Tuesday and so far I've written 4 cheques filled in a million and one forms and Done "homework " with DD 10-20 min a day homework for DD luckly she loves it as its reading and then drawing a picture about it. I am sitting staring at anothe load of forms that need filling sigh no rest fro the wicked.

Gladis... I do not know your school, but last year I was by now really scared about my second job: school. Up until Christmas I felt I was going to miss something very important every other day. Writing names, filling forms, donations, bringing tissues, settling in time, reading stories in school, the baking bake thing...
I have had nothing, ZERO to do this year. Now I am worried I am really missing something...ha, ha.

OP, your post made me laugh.

That's exactly how I felt this time last year, when dd started in reception, and I wondered how on earth I was going to manage a full-time job and my domestic life alongside all these new obligations and responsibilities. I confided in a friend whose dd was two years older than mine, and she assured me that it would die down after the first few weeks. It did, and the demands since then have been infinitely more reasonable!

Yes, the book bag feels more like the Presidential satchel at the moment....and I try to keep up with it to prevent civil war!

Next week she has to bring in something each day of the week that starts with certain letters. I wonder just how many post-it notes I can put up around the house to ensure I remember that....

Start of every term is the same
Why not put the things in bags now so they are done- if you drive even pop them in the car now, if not just hang them whereever you hang the school bags so you can just grab and go!

I felt like this when my dd started, but you do get used to it.

E.g. you start to realise that you can't forget (the child, the book bag, their lunch) but you can forget other things.

You will get used to it, I promise! And, in the end find that you effortlessly forget very little.

FWIW, I have now purchased a plastic crate which sits by the front door and anything and everything that needs to go to school the following day gets put in there. Then it and the kids get put in the car in the morning. It's working a treat. Not so good if you walk, obviously...

Oh God you just reminded me of last year. My dd started P1 (which I think is the same as Reception) she had to bring in bits and pieces beginning with certain letters. I had to go to craft shops etc to buy glitter, sticky things etc (art does not come naturally to me!!) The cake sales, the curriculum meetings, the Christmas fete!!. Just wait until the run of birthday parties every weekend for 8 weeks

Great tips everyone. I will put all the things for the week in a bag by the door and tie a knot in it.

This is because my daughter pulls everything out of the book bag at the end of the day so she can inspect her artwork etc, so things might go astray at that stage. Also my 1 year old tries to peak in too. But I will put them in another bag by the door and transfer them into the book bag each morning.

It does feel like my daughter has joined the army at time. Everything requires military precision and planning.
