School AGM

I'm planning on going to my first AGM/social evening tonight as I really want to get involved with the school/fund-raising, etc. The thing is I don't really know any of the parents (DS has just moved to new school since house move this year and is in yr 4) and they all seem so cliquey! Also I am a bit shy but think it comes across as being stuck up, which I'm really not. When I chat to other parents I usually end up saying the wrong thing and blushing scarlet. Does anyone know what I can expect at the meeting or have any tips for how I should try and make friends! God this feels very sad and embarrassing.

Go along. An AGM needs a certain percentage of people to attend in order to make any changes deemed necessary. They will be so pleased you turned up.

Don't worry about being shy, everyone there is there for the same reason, in order to aid the school, so you have that in common.

Go on, you know you want to!

thanks for the advice, there is always the added incentive of a free glass of wine, that might loosen me up a bit!

Please go - i'm Secretary of the PTA I wouldn't say we were cliquey as I hardly know some of the other members still i imagine we are perceived like that as sometimes im sure others avoid me in the playground lol!! However last AGm a mum who I vaguely knew volunteered to jin and I was so glad as we are really really good friends now and she is a pleasure to have in my life!

I'm sure you will be welcomed with open arms!

But I do understand about being nervous breaking into what appears to be a clique. I'm the same, but often the only way to get to know people is take the plunge and try it out.

Good luck.
