C of E junior school

Hi

If your children go to a C of E school that takes children of all religions/denominations can you tell me how much of a role Christianity plays in the education side of things? my DDs go to an infant school that feeds into a C of E junior and as a family we do not partake of any religion and I do not think religion should have any influence over education so I am worried about it.

Any thougts/opinions gratefully received.

Quite a lot at ours. There is a lot of praying and prayers in the school newsletter etc.

We are atheists. It's not what I'd choose all other things being equal but ds is yet to demand we start going to church on Sundays/ praying/ dragging us to an Alpha Course.

He does occasionally talk about their praying at school and has asked a few questions about god. But non C of E schools do a bit of praying too (not as much granted).

At ours (with a very mixed intake) there are prayers and hymns and a Christian theme in assembly, the Grace said at meals on a day-to-day basis.

They have celebrations of the main Christian festivals, often by walking to the church in the town centre for a service there and all the children are given a bible at the end of Y6.

My children go to a non selective c of e school. They only go to church for harvest festival, christmas and sometimes easter. Assembly ends with 1 prayer and a hymn. If the children are of a different religion then they can leave assembly for the prayer and hymn. To be honest christianity doesn't take any other role in the education side.
