What does MFL stand for?

My son is in year 4 and there is one period of this on his timetable. He had it last year too and I didn't ask his teacher then...now am too embarrassed to ask because I should already know!
He is a typical 8 yr old boy so says 'I dunno' to anything I ask him about school.

Thanks so much you wise folk. Thought it was Material Focused Learning or other buzzwordy type made up thingy. Do they call it that so they can vary the language? Actually think DS would prefer Latin or Ancient Greek, or maybe a bit of Viking/Old English - then again he could be learning all these things just choosing not to dicuss it with me!

modern foreign language - when my cousin was in year 4 he learnt french... when i was in year 4.. i didn't learn a language.. i learnt french from yr 7 and spanish at year 7. I was in yr 4 in 1998...

my DS has just started MFL in yr 4. any idea how long has it been called this?

It was called MFL when I started teaching 14 years ago!
