Can you wash a bookbag?

DD1 is moving into the Juniors Shock so she has a new backpack rather than a bookbag. DD2 will need the bookbag when she starts next year, but after 3 years of being kicked round the playground, it's looking a bit grubby! Can you wash them? What will happen if I just fling it in the machine?!

Yes they wash in a machine depending on the material they may be a little less "stiff" but otherwise ok
