Hi,
We are in the process of relocating & have just had our 2 children accepted at school, 1 in Bakewell Primary & the other at the Junior school. however I've currently no idea what the school's policy is re new starters in reception at the primary school ie times / 1/2 days initially etc? And do they actually start on Mon 6th Sept? If anyone can give me some info I'd be v grateful!
Thanks,

Hello
Don't know the schools but do you mean Bakewell Infant and then Juniors? Primary normally goes up to yr 6 and includes juniors.

Has the school not given you a start day/details re FS2? Seems odd.

Schools in Derby and Derbyshire are starting back on Mon Sept 6 but a lot of them are taking that first day as an inset (all 4 that I am involved with are).

Hello,
We have only just had confirmation of the girls places as we've moved during the school holidays. This means I'm unable to speak directly to the schools as no-one is there - a bit of a challenge! I understand Bakewell Primary goes up to the end of Year 2 and then Juniors takes over. Any idea where I can get this info as at the moment I'm planning on taking my girls to their new schools on Mon 6th!
Thanks!

I'd try ringing the school this Friday. If the school does go back on Monday then i'd have thought some of the staff will be in on Friday sorting stuff out.

Does the school not have a website ?

Thanks for the advice. Yes have had a look at the website but no details of policy re reception starters so at the moment have no idea if the little one will be on 1/2 days to begin with or not!

Oh I think it is prob Bakewell Infant and then Junior schools you have got into.

Just for website help.

YY I agree, call the school at the end of next week, just to check if they are starting back on Mon 6 or have inset. There will surely be someone there by Thurs/Fri! It's poor that no-one has contacted you wrt yr reception starter but maybe they are not aware of you (IYSWIM).

Hi I dont know the school but I teach in the Reception class at a Notts school. All schools have an impossed Admin day on Monday where all staff are required in. My advice would be to ring the school in the morning and ask to speak to the Foundation Coordinator or the reception teacher (often the same person). You may wish to ask to pop into the school in the afternoon so that you can ask questions face to face and your child will get a chance to meet their teacher before they start on tuesday.

The first day in reception is very busy, getting all the children into the classroom in the morning can be stressful for parents and children. The teacher will find it difficult to speak at length with you before school. Personally I would ring in the morning on Mionday and arange a short! visit in the afternoon.

Good luck and by my experience parents struggle far more when their children start school than the children do. xx

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. I'll call the school at the end of this week & hopefully they can help. Looks like there's no point dropping off the girls on monday 6th! Thanks again............
