Dd, 4 is starting school on 2nd. Going into specialist shop on 2nd. Have ordered 2 polo shirts, 2 jumpers, 2 skirts, will buy pack of socks and tights and have ordered book bag and pe bag. Oh and named labels. Does that sound enough? Other things:

They do apron with logo on-worth it?
They do fleeces abs waterproof coats? Worth buying both or either/or?

Cant believe she is going-bless.

If you can afford it I would have 5 shirts so you didn't have to wash so often. Do they need to be the school ones ? M&S do 3 for 2.

colditz · 22/08/2010 08:54

I would get 5 polo shirts and 3 jumpers, but would not buy apron or any of the coats or fleeces.

WowOoo · 22/08/2010 08:57

Think the 3 for 2 M and S offer ended in July.
I would get more shirts than that to take the washing and drying pressure off. They can be mucky little things.
I'd wait and see on the non essentials.

Can't believe mine is going too. They're so teeny still!

Ok. May get more shirts and leave coats and fleece for now. The shirts have to have logo on sadly. Only six pound so not too bad. Fleece logo-20-hence why a bit hesitant!

Agree with others - get enough clothes so that you don't have to wash school stuff more than once a week.

colditz · 22/08/2010 09:19

Unless it is a private school, they are not allowed to insist on uniform at all - I really would buy the generic shirts because I think you will find you aren't the only parent who has seen sense!

DD has 5 polo shirts, 3 skirts, 2 trousers and 1 jumper (she takes it off as soon as she gets to class). I did get the logo jacket (reversible fleece/waterproof) for my dd as I found it hard to find a jacket for her anywhere else.

No just a normal town primary. Going to look at pics on website to see if children are all wearing logo top or whether some just have plain.

Great advice on here today re this

YY don't buy logo polo shirt. The quality is never as good and £6 each is a shocker frankly. They are about £6 for 3 from M&S and even cheaper in Asda and better quality (ie 100% cotton).

Don't bother with school fleece or apron or coat. Never seen the point of school fleece - not warm enough as a coat and too warm once indoors.

mejon · 22/08/2010 22:50

DD has 3 logo'd polos and 2 sweatshirts. They are allowed to wear what they like on the bottom half but I've got her 3 navy skirts as I'd rather she messed those up than her normal clothes. Our polos are navy and I've unfortunately not seen any generic ones in the shops so I've had to go for the logo'd ones.

mummynumnum · 22/08/2010 22:50

Yes think you are right on the fleece. She hates being too warm anyhow.
