Hello!

We arrived from Canada on the 1st of July, but didn't have a lease agreement in our hands until the 28th (the house hunt took absolutely ages)

We are living 10 metres away from a good school, but by the time we could prove our address there were no places for ds (who should be going into yr 2).

We have applied for a place with the LA and they said they would phone us to let us know (but couldn't tell us when)

Has anyone had any experience of late applications? Do you think ds will have to start late? Would you advise visiting the school to introduce ourselves?

Many thanks for any thoughts/advice!!

I would advise asking the LA which is your nearest school with places. You can go on the waiting lists for more than one school. I don't think you are allowed to keep your son out of school until the right place comes up, unless you are home educating but the LA has a duty to find you a place somewhere. I would speak directly to the school too, to see how likely a place coming up may be.

Thank you Runoutofideas. That's a good idea (you had one left!!!)

I will do both these things. I imagine it's better to be proactive in these cases.

Thanks again!

I think proactive is definitely the way to go! In my experience, very little about school admissions is straightforward! Good luck!
