how to keep fresh milk cool in lunch bag

Any advice welcome. I bought EZ bottle from John Lewis (got little stick which you put in freezer) but when I tried it, milk was no longer cold after approx 3 hours and it will need to stay cold for 5 hours. Don't want to risk that milk goes off and dd drinks it, but would like to give her milk (school does not do school milk). Any ideas gratefully received.

Put milk in freezer the night before then it will slowly defrost during the day

Not sure that dd would manage to open thermos and pour milk without risk that she pours most over school uniform.

i have to admit, I really wouldn't bother, i would just give milk at home!

you could ask tho if they have a fridge they could put it in? ds1's school did this for me when i forgot to pay for his milk and he didn't get any

can you not just give milk at home and give a drink that doesnt need to be kept cool for school.

thanks for the advice. I try the freezing first and if that does not work then the special thermos flask.

My dd will leave home at 8.00h and be back around 16.00h, so not much opportunity to give milk at home (I prefer her to have 3 glasses of milk a day ...)

Why do you feel she needs to take milk to school? She can get the same calcium/protein/vitamin/fat intake from other produce that will not go off as quickly as milk.

My DD who loved milk in reception year left home at 7.55am and did not get home till 4.45pm and still managed to consume over a pint of milk a day at home. I gave a 1\3 of a pint at breakfast and then 1\3 of a pint of arrival home and then 1\3 of a pint with her tea.
So I would think if your LO is keen on milk you should have no problem getting it in at home.

Does your dd not find so much milk really filling?

Do they need to take milk in? They'll get milk either in the morning or afternoon as part of the milk scheme and lots of schools give even the packed lunch kids the choice between milk or water with their lunch.

May be worth checking how the land lies before going at working this problem out too much.

Ask anyone at school in the 80s how vile lukewarm milk used to be in those glass bottles on a summer day though - one of the worst memories I have of primary school!

Otherwise lots of kids stick their waterbottles in the freezer on hot days and let it melt through the morning so they've got really cold water to drink - would probably work.

why not buy little cartons of UHT milk then it doesn't matter if it isn't chilled? or freeze it its will be cold and defrosted at lunchtime.

I'd give water or juice.

I wouldn't like trying to thoroughly clean out a milky flask every day.
