We are looking to relocate to Newport in Wales, and I wondered if anybody has any idea about the schools around there? DD will be coming up to primary age.

Thanks!

I'd look at catchment areas for secondary schools rather than primary schools. I don't know Newport well, but Caerleon Comprehensive has an excellent reputation. Hartridge High does not, because of behaviour issues stemming mainly from the Ringland estate. This isn't my personal experience or opinion, but it's the general consensus of people I've spoken to in the past. (DH works in Newport).

Thank you - that's just what I needed to know!

Are you looking for state secondary or independent school. I dont livein Newport but hoping to move to Newport.I live 2o minutes away now. Bassaleg secondary is well thought of school in Newport and all the areas which feed into it are expensive in comparison with other areas. Hope this helps.
You can live in Cardiff and your DH can commute to Newport. You have definitely more choices in Cardiff.

Thanks for that - hadn't thought of Cardiff as an option as I assumed that would be more expensive. Had wondered about Chepstow though - what's that like?

DH just has to get the job now!

Bassaleg High School has a very good reputation and is on the furthest west side of newport. Rogerstone is a nice area that feeds into it.

Caerleon Comp is also meant to be good. Its onthe east side of newport, and has some nice feeder areas (incl Usk I think).

Cardiff is likely to be more expensive than most areas in Newport.

Chepstow's ok. Quite a few people send their kids to wyedean school for secondary (over the border in sedbury).

Malpas Church School in Newport is one of the best as is the Endowed School in Caerleon, at primary level.
Also Pentrpeoth and High Cross on the other side of town.

High Schools Caerleon and Bassaleg. Plus Croesyceiliog in Cwmbran.
