Finally in receipt of Dd's Report

Now I just need to get a degree in educational jargon to understand it.

Have received one piece of paper headed up End of Key Stage 1 Teacher Assessment

For English dd received S&L 2, R 3 and W 3, Maths 3, Science 2

Also received a breakdown showing all subjects with progress, effort, NC level and attainment

On this dd received NC levels S&L 2a, R 3c and W 3c,
Maths 3c, Science 2b

We are thrilled with both sets of results but do not understand why we have 2 sets?

Now if only dd's effort was as good as her results!!!

That is because for the first set of results they are meant to only give a level e.g. Level 2/Level 3, which is what you get in the SATS results. The teacher has then broken this down into A,B,C. These results are very good.

She on the other hand is a bit upset because the report laboured the point that she is chatty and this effects her work quantity and therefore potentially quality.

Actually, this is an honest assessment although as dh and I are not actually in the class with dd we can not see how we can assist with this.

Would a teacher keep a child in at play or send the work home for completion? This has never happened to date.

Yes, I've done that. I had a meeting with parents at the start of the current year, where they told their son that if he didn't complete the work in school, I was to send it home. It never happened, as I just had to prompt him and he stopped it.

Think I'll mention to dd's new teachers that if she is falling into the habit of chatting and not completing a sufficient amount of work that we expect it to be sent home for completion.

Quite frankly she'd soon learn not to do this as dh and I would expect more from her than her teachers - I was told she was heading for a 2a possibly a 3 but to get a 3 was difficult for a Yr2.

Who said to you that 3s were difficult? Your childs teacher? Interested as dd has scored 2b for writing and 2a for Reading at the end of year 1 so going by this I would expect her to achieve secure 3s at the end of year 2 and trust her teacher to help her achieve this. Surely I am not alone in this?

lovecheese - it was my dd's teacher. And no you are not alone in having such expectations.

However, as dh and I have had to teach my dd how to form her letters correctly and help her improve her writing skills at the end of Yr1, she was only a writing 1b, we don't have a lot of faith in the education system.
