uniform for YR , how much of it?

In preparation for boy going to school ( Year R) I've got him 3 pairs school trews, 3 school logo sweatshirts, and intend to get 5 polo shirts & 1 set of pe shorts and T-shirt and plimsolls. That should do shouldn't it?

He has black shoes, boring socks and a waterproof coat already, tho coat is quite bright green.
PS- I'm only this prepared this early as school had a 2nd hand uniform sale today.

Sounds good to me! We have just survived 3 half terms on 3 poloshirts. He is a mucky pup and usually gets tea on his shirt at least twice a week, so I do occasionally have to do an extra wash in the week.
I indulged in shorts for September and he's still wearing them now (he did wear trousers during winter - I'm not that awful!) I'm also pretty proud of the fact that we still own 5 pairs of school socks!!

p'raps some shorts too in case it's hot - it can be quite warm in September.

Other than that, it sounds good

get more socks than you need they always go missing
also think about a pair of shorts if the school allows them - September can be a hot month
and a lunchbox if he's having packed lunches! and book bag etc etc

don't get a bookbag until you know whether the school provide them - lots of schools do.

If you're getting a lunch box, make sure it's a bit different to all the other ben10 lunchboxes out there, or his will get lost EVERY day.

Agree about socks - you can never have too many.

And... make sure that EVERYTHING is labelled with his name, he will absolutely not keep track of his sweatshirt when he has taken it off... this is doubly important when you;ve bought the stuff second hand as it may well have the previous owner's name in it already.

We have got by on 3 polo shirts and 2 sweatshirts, but dd is generally quite a clean child.

I think it depends on how clean your child is and how often you are going to wash things (just once a week or midweek too). Ds1 absolutely needs 3 or more sweatshirts if he is to be sent to school looking clean. Ds2 manages fine with 2.

If you name things with a pen you'll need to write the name in again during the year.

Buy yourself a Sharpie pen in black. It will indelible mark shoes, water bottles, lunch boxes etc etc.

Keep it under lock and key though...

He is actually a Jan starter, but school had a 2nd hand uniform sale yesterday and his trews are hand me downs. Lots of kids at this school wear shorts in summer, girls and boys.

I had to chuckle when the reception teacher said it was important to name everything including pants and socks as she often finds pants "left over" after changing for PE and needs to know who they are from.

Get quality name labels, and stitch them on at the neck of shirts and in the waistband of trousers.

Don't worry about boring socks, just use your regular one.

Get onto amazon and invest in a different (easily identifiable) lunchbag.

Keep a complete set of clothes (t shirt, jogging bottoms, pants and socks) in his PE kit at school for emergencies.

I was informed that my mil sewed in labels onto the sole of dh's socks. I thought this would be uncomfortable so embroidered ds's initials into the top of each sock.

He is my pfb, and it was his reception year - I will probably never do this again (sorry ds2!).

Tbh there's much more chance of losing socks at home than at school. The sock monster is alive and well and living somewhere in our washing machine or laundry basket!!

I did wonder about teh socks... not like YR kids have such sweaty feet they have to use sports socks for PE. He has boring socks already as boys socks seem to come in FOOTBALL CRAZY or boring or Camo. and he doesn't care much for football and I don't care much for Camo.

Lunch bag etc is done already as he does full days at preschool.

They do like them to have bare feet for PE when they're indoors, so they do come off. Bare feet are best for growing feet when they do gym and dance and that sort of stuff.

And by the end of reception they do start to sweat a bit, not that it's worth the faff of sending extra socks in

My DS has had a few accidents, - to be honest he comes home damp every day, so we have needed 5 of everything, plus extra trousers and pants in his gym bag so he can change if he needs to at school
