Hi Mumsnetters,

I have decided to send my daughter to a school outside our borough. Will be a few stops by train but 2 buses. Some mornings I will be dropped off.

I was currently living closer but we moved house after the place was allocated. I got a place a new school but i dont like it.

Please what have been your experiences sending your child to schools far away. Did it affect them in any way?

She is due to start reception in september and my friends think Im bonkers for sending her so far to school they just dont understand i just want the best for my child..

No experience of this, but what I do remember from both my dcs was how exhausted they were at the end of the day in Reception. Also how nice it was for them to have their school friends live locally. So I wouldn't think this was the ideal solution. But then obviously one often has to make do with less than ideal solutions in life. But do bring a snack when you pick them up in the afternoon!

Will you not feel a bit out of the loop re friendships/community?
I guess you and your DD already have friends from that area if you were there before. But friends round for tea might be less and it'll be really dark when she gets home from school in the winter (especially if doing after school activities).
I guess you'll have thought a lot about it all though.

My ds have often gone to school further away than where we live with younger children its not so much a problem they make friends easy enough and have school friends and home friends but as they get older and want to go out with friends it can mean several bus rides and expensive taxi fares.
