Questions to ask about yr 1

I'm dithering about going to the open session with the yr 1 teacher for next year as I'm not sure what I would want to ask her. Any suggestions?

Thanks, I guess I will just go and listen. I'm just so busy right now I'm wondering if it's worth it. I think I've heard quite a bit from the other mums already.

I think you should go. In our school the leap from YR to Y1 was quite big.

For me, it was the schools expectation that my little one should remember to leave his books in the tray, remember his own coat & PE bag etc. He didn't bring any books home for ages as he did not grasp they he had to pick them up from the tray...etc.

For my little one, it felt to him like there was a lot more work and a lot less play. Very annoying when you spent a lot of reception on the climbing frame outside pretending to be a pirate !!

Also, the Y1 teacher explained about seating arrangements and how they would change each term. About how they would begin to group children by ability etc etc.

Parents that did not make the session did have a lot of questions. So if you can't make it get one of the other mums to let you know what was said.

I always think its good to get to know the teacher a bit if you have the opportunity, then if you need to discuss anything during the year, you won't find it so daunting/will be able to pitch it better etc etc

Also IME other parents' chinese whispers account of information exchanged can be patchy at best, misleading at worst.

OK, I'm convinced!
