Anyone else struggling with the behaviour of their 5 year old at the moment?

DS is just totally horrible at the moment. Seems to have got all of a sudden cheeky and really bad attitude. Only started school in January was loves it but not sure if this is something I need to nip in the bud or is this normal for this stage in their school life!!

dd is no longer 5, but she was this time last year and.....it was hard going! Normal, normal, normal. They are exhausted because its the end of the school year; there are loads of extra activities; they often have trouble sleeping at usual time because its so light and/or hot. Plus, endings and changes put excitement and anxiety into the air, so the end of the academic year is bound to contribute in a general sense!

I found firm boundaries but lots of second chances, extra loving, and as much down-time as possible got her through faster. This year, I was ready for it

totally agree with elibean, its completely normal, poor old teachers the last few weeks of term, they are all awful!

also mine not sleeping brilliantly because of heat. your DS will just be really physically and mentally exhausted. down time great advice - lots of taking it easy, slow picnics in the garden and winding down. not long now.....!

My 6 yr old is the same. I have stopped all homework for the last week or so and let him sleep in as much as possible in the morning etc. I think he just needs to recharge his batteries.

yes sleeping is a big issue lately - nodding off at least 30mins to an 1hour later than usual...then waking early due to birds tweetign and light mornings so Im putting it down to tiredness etc...

DD is the same. Have found a 6.30 pm bedtime helps and plenty of chill time and cuddles.

Yes I can confirm that it is tiredness. My 5 year old is the same, mainly bursting into tears, tantrums and stamping feet - it's like having another toddler in the house ;o)
